How do I get to Dover Castle from Dover Priory Railway Station?

To get to Dover Castle from Dover railway station, you can:

  • walk - it takes around 25-30 minutes! Walk for approx 5 minutes and you'll arrive at the town centre (clearly signposted). Make your way towards the Market Square and you will see Dover Visitor Information Centre at Dover Museum. You can pop in to see us for information and a map, or you can continue along Castle Street. At this point you will see the castle clearly ahead of you (unless it's a misty day!). Cross over the road at the traffic lights and continue up Castle Hill Road.  On the right hand side, you will see an English Heritage sign by a footpath which will take you directly to the castle entrance.
  • get a bus from the town centre. The Stagecoach Bus (Number 15) from Pencester Road leaves for the castle every 34 minutes past the hour.
  • take a taxi which would be the quickest option and better for those with mobility difficulties as the road leading to the castle is fairly steep. From the train station a taxi would cost around £8.
