Our Countryside

Away from our striking coastline, the countryside is peppered with some little gems.

Visit historic villages, ancient churches and centuries-old mills, which are all wonderful, unspoiled and a vivid testament to bygone times.

Barfrestone Church is one of the best-preserved Norman churches in England, its fine arcading and exquisitely carved arches remaining exactly as they were when the church was built in the 12th century.

At the Kent Battle of Britain Museum you can see the most important collection of Battle of Britain artefacts in the country. Chillenden Mill dates back to 1868, while the 250-year-old White Mill in Sandwich is the oldest restored windmill in Kent.

Explore and enjoy Kearsney Abbey.Walk around the gardens and watch the wildlife on the lake. Many of our villages display Historic Village Information Panels, which describe their origins and history through the centuries.
