Meanwhile route 15 follows an imaginative route through beautiful rolling countryside, partly following the now quiet former main road, and partly on an appealing purpose-built track. It is an area of bridleways for off-roaders, ancient churches, hedgerows and yew trees, and villages with 'hall house' buildings dating from medieval times, with timber framework.
Halfway to Sandwich there's a sheltered picnic spot, or stop at one of the country pubs - the High and Dry bar, restaurant and garden - 01304 820005; the Plough and Harrow in Tilmanstone, an attractive public house and garden and the venue for Velo Club (VC) Deal to meet for time trials in the summer - 01304 617532.
Just off the route are old churches in Betteshanger and Tilmanstone - ancient yew tree in churchyard c.2000 years old.
In Eastry, there's the Five Bells - 01304 611188 - and a fish bar.
Be careful crossing the A256, then at the end of Felderland lane there are seasonal Pick-your-own (PYO) fields of fruit trees and bushes; then on to Sandwich or a pleasant detour to Worth.
