The White Cliffs of Dover are internationally famous. The Gateway
visitor centre introduces the visitor to five miles of coast &
countryside with spectacular views of the English Channel and Port
of Dover. Much of the chalk downland along the clifftops is classified
as SSSI with interesting flora and fauna.

Connaught
Park

Connaught Park is located near to Dover Castle. These beautiful gardens
offer a tranquil setting within Dover Town. There are plenty of areas
to sit and enjoy a picnic or just take in the views. Facilities include
a children’s play area, eight grass tennis courts, mini football
and toilet facilities.

Frontline Britain Trail
St Margaret’s-at-Cliffe

Discover the wildlife and history of the countryside of the cliff-top
village of St Margaret's-at-Cliffe on an easy circular walk, the Frontline
Britian Trail. Starting from the car park within the village, or from
the car park at St Margaret's Bay, discover a series of information
panels about history and wildlife as you follow the waymarked trail.
There are information panels about the trail in both car parks. A
free leaflet is available about the trail with further information
about the Heritage Coast

Gazen Salts Nature Reserve

A wonderful example of a man made nature reserve, within a 15 acre
site. 1 1/2 miles of winding paths escort you through the many created
habitats. A central lake accommodates an attractive collection of
wildfowl which may be fed. An enjoyable visit for all the family.
Free without opening restrictions. NO DOGS PLEASE.

Samphire

Samphire Hoe is an amazing place, made from the material dug to create
the Channel tunnel, with something for everybody: a stunning location,
wild flowers, birds, sea angling, peace and quiet, painting or walks.
Refreshments are available on site. The site is accessible for all
people, providing gentle and interesting walks - the further you get
from the car park the more wild the site becomes. Guided walks and
other activities are regularly organised.

Extensive fortifications dating from the late 1700's and 1800's, surrounded
by the the green slopes of a Local Nature Reserve. There are fine
views over The Channel and Dover. Access via South Military Road (A20
Western Heights roundabout) or via Cowgate Steps along the North Downs
Way. Discover the history and wildlife of the site on three waymarked
walking routes, contained in a free colour leaflet.

Whinless Down

This new Local Nature Reserve is a gateway to the Area of Outstanding
Natural Beauty. It is a good place to see the wild flowers and butterflies
of ancient chalk grassland, with dramatic views over Dover. Access
from Elms Vale Recreation Ground, where there is a free car park and
an information panel. A free leaflet is available showing the walking
routes with information about wildlife and history.
