With its fertile soils, the East Kent Downlands have been at the
heart of Kent’s fruit growing, hops and market gardening for
centuries and to this day is renowned for its local produce. You
will also find much arable and some livestock farming here.
Whitfield Farmers Market
A busy market, held every Thursday from 9am to 12am in the Village Hall. Here
you’ll find fresh fish and seafood, fruit and vegetables, eggs,
bread, cakes, scones, quiches and pies, cold meats and homemade
dishes including Indian and Asian dishes, fruit and meat pies,
Ashmore Kentish cheese, jams, chutneys, pickles, sauces,
homemade truffles, fudge and coconut ice.

Deal Farmers Market
Deal Farmers' Market is held
every Wednesday in the Town Hall Undercroft, from
07.00 to 13.30.
There are 12 stalls packed with local produce and locally made
craft including seasonal fruit and fresh vegetables; jams, bread
and cakes; free range eggs and meat, plants and herbs; and homemade
household goods such as cushions, pillows, aprons, jewellery and
clocks.

Held in the Village
Hall every Tuesday from 10am
to 12.30pm,
on the cliff-top with glorious sea
views. It has around 20 stalls each week selling quality meat, game
and poultry, fresh seafood, deli items, eggs.

Little Farthingloe Farm
The farm is on an historic site
mentioned in the Domesday Book. The traditional buildings have been
adapted into a range of shops and a tearoom, and a woodland nature
trail winds through the farm. Whilst here take the time to visit
the Women’s Land Army Museum which gives a
fascinating insight into the life of women serving their country
during the Second World War.
Sladden Farm
The farm shop and butcher at
Sladden Farm in Alkham provides customers with a
variety of free-range meat including Dexter beef, Wilthorn lamb and
rare-breed pork, as well as their own homemade dry-cured bacon,
burgers and a wide variety of sausages. The shop also sells a

Barnsole at Staple produces red and white wine
from Rondo, Regent, Pinot Noir, Reichensteiner and Huxelrebe
grapes. Make time for a tasting and either a mini tour which take
around 20 minutes or a full guided tour which you will need to pre
book.

Sandwich is
surrounded by soft fruit farms and market gardens and here you will
find the Delf
Farm Shopwhich grows much
of its own produce, the White Mill Farm Shop and
Felderland Farm Shop where you can also PYO
strawberries, gooseberries, raspberries, apples, pears and
cherries. The
Sandwich Farmers Market is held at the Guildhall on the last
Saturday of each month, (March to November) from 9am to 1pm and
also in the town centre you will find the interestingly named
No Name Shop on No Name Street – a delicatessen
selling a range of French produce – and the Fruit Bowl
greengrocers. The Bakers Dozen in nearby Eastry
sells freshly baked break, rolls and cakes
