Crossing the Channel
Crossing the channel
Take advantage of
our close proximity to France and hop across from
Dover for the day on one of the frequent
cross channel ferries. Take the car or cruise
across as a foot passenger. On clear days you can even see the
lights of Calais and Boulogne, tempting the visitor to experience
something new. Turn your day into a short visit, but don’t forget
your passport!
Experience a taste of something new and pop across to see our
French neighbours. Cafe culture, shopping, museums and great places
to eat are all waiting to be discovered.
Calais
Just a short
hop across the Channel from England lies the Nord-Pas-de-Calais.
Steeped in history, discover the rich heritage of the region's
monuments, museums and historic cities dating from Roman times to
the last World Wars.
France is famous for its wonderful gastronomy and the
Nord-Pas-de-Calais region is no exception with superb examples of
mouth watering regional specialities as well as numerous regionally
brewed beers.

Boulogne
Down by the river, Boulogne's fishing
port still bustles.
Great sandy beaches and a number of historic sites, along with
the superb sea life centre - Nausicaa. Boulogne's Old Town, built
within the original Roman walls, has recently been restored
and regenerated.
The rue de Lille leads from the Cathedral, and is lined with
great
restaurants.
