The Salutation Hotel & Restaurant
White Cliffs Country Accommodation Charter
A short hop from the capital, a stone’s throw from the continent, we are situated just where we want to be.
Edwin Lutyens’ private-house masterpiece, a luxury hotel, restaurant and award-winning gardens, lies within the medieval town of Sandwich overbrimmed with history just beyond its old flint walls.
Completed in 1912 and turning heads ever since, its world-famous architect, Edwin Lutyens, considered it amongst his finest achievements. Described by historian ASG Butler as “the supreme rendering of the full Georgian idiom,” The Main House offers 8 impressive bedrooms, connected by grand staircases and elegant landings. Within the estate sit three beautiful self-contained cottages, ideal for groups of friends or family.
The Salutation offers a wealth of dining options, from dawn ‘til dusk. With the North Wing opened up to accommodate our state of the art kitchen, our dining rooms fully refurbished, and our tearoom given a fresh start this year, there is now something for everyone at every time of day, all stemming from the same kitchen team and striving for the same sky-high standards. Whether it is residents’ breakfast, in-between bites, lunch or Afternoon Tea on the terrace, a la carte dining or our Tasting Room menu, we are cult-like in our obsession with local sourcing and in-house production.
Eat with us, drink with us, sleep with us. Stroll around our green paths and lose yourself in our herbaceous borders. Explore the area or never leave the grounds. Take Afternoon Tea on the terrace. Toast by the Drawing Room fire. Dine at the Chef’s Table. Wallow in Bed.
