Annual Main Events

  • White Cliffs Country hosts a bounty of popular annual events, festivals, shows and carnivals.

    Whether you are looking for celebration, tradition, culture, the arts, shopping & collectables or food & drink, all our events are fun, full of community spirit and everyone is invited!

     

    Please find below a general guide to the main annual events happening across White Cliffs Country. Unfortunately there is no guarantee that each event will take place - please check with the organisers to confirm. We have included links to each organiser to make this easier for you.

  • April

    • Easter Events - including those at Dover Castle, Walmer Castle & Gardens, East Kent Railway and Crabble Corn Mill.
  • May

    • Classic Car & Motor Show, Deal - hundreds of classic vehicles on Walmer green in aid of the RNLI.
    • Crabble Corn Mill's Beer & Cider Festival, Dover - Featuring real ales and ciders from all over the country, including local specialities.
    • National Mills Weekend Events - including those at the White Mill Heritage Centre, Crabble Corn Mill and Chillenden Mill.
    • Sandwich Food Fayre - a two-day food fayre in the heart of historic Sandwich town, with stalls focused on quality local products. The event celebrates the sandwich itself, named after the 4th Earl of Sandwich in 1762.
    • Sandwich Salutes the 40s and Celebrates the 50s - a free three-day event held in the medieval town of Sandwich celebrating all that is 1940s and 1950s.
    • Walmer Brocante, Deal - antiques and collectables fair on Walmer Green held on May Bank Holiday weekend.
    • Bank Holiday Weekend Events - including those at Dover Castle, East Kent Railway and Dover Transport Museum.

    • Father's Day Events - including those at East Kent Railway.
    • Le Weekend, Sandwich - a two-day festival in Sandwich including an authentic Normandy market, food stalls, music, classic cars and Can Can dancing.
    • Little Gardens of Sandwich - the hidden gardens of one of Kent's most charming medieval towns open up to the public. The perfect event for garden-lovers to find inspiration.
    • Western Heights Open Weekend, Dover - view the Western Heights during one of the open weekends when the Drop Redoubt, one of the two forts on the Western Heights, and the Grand Shaft will be open to visitors.
    • The Clifftop Challenge - a charity event in aid of Breast Cancer Now.
  • July

    • Deal Festival of Music & The Arts - international and national artists perform at venues in Dover, Deal and Sandwich at the annual popular two-week festival showcasing everything from street music to opera and local art.
    • Battle of Britain Memorial Day (12 July 2020)
    • Deal Carnival & Regatta Week - considered the South East's oldest and finest carnival and regatta. The packed programme includes live music, fireworks displays, a rowing regatta, teddy bears picnic, raft race, lorry-pull, colourful carnival and much more. 
    • Royal Marines Concert, Deal - annual concert on Deal's Memorial Bandstand at Walmer Green by Her Majesty's Royal Marines Band.
    • Dover Carnival - See the colourful carnival as it winds its way through the streets of Dover.
    • Dover Marina Open Weekend 
    • Sandwich Folk & Ale Festival - an annual festival with music and dancing in Sandwich pubs and streets. Range of folk musical styles with an outdoor stage on he Guildhall Forecourt.
  • August

    • Kent Miners' Festival - a day out to enjoy heritage, charity groups, music and entertainment.   
    • Port of Dover Community Regatta - A fantastic festival of family fun. 
    • Dover Pride - celebrating Dover Pride, including stalls and entertainment.
    • Sandwich Festival - a popular annual event with street stalls, Italian food market, street music and classic car meets.
    • White Cliffs Walking Festival - a huge variety of walks to suit all abilities and interests. Whether your interests cover history or geocaching or flora and fauna, the festival has a walk for you.
  • September

    • Deal Braderie - open air antiques and memorabilia fayre held through the town.
    • Sandwich Arts Week - art exhibitions at St Peter's Church and other locations around the town. Music, concerts, workshops, drama and film.
    • Heritage Open Days - explore some hidden historical gems during the Heritage Open Days in Deal, Dover and Sandwich. 
    • 4 Castles Challenge - a half marathon from Sandown Castle, past Deal Castle and Walmer Castle to Dover Castle.
    • Aylesham Carnival - Kent's largest village carnival.
  • October

    • Halloween Events - including those at Dover Castle, Walmer Castle, East Kent Railway and Crabble Corn Mill.
  • November

    • Fireworks Night (Bonfire Night) Events - including those at Lydden Hill Race Circuit.
    • White Cliffs Christmas at Dover's Cruise Terminal 1 - with a traditional Christmas market, ice rink, live music and lots more, head to Port of Dover's Cruise Terminal 1 for a White Cliffs Christmas.
    • Christmas Lights Switch On Events - in Dover, Deal and Sandwich 
  • December

    • White Cliffs Christmas at Dover's Cruise Terminal 1 - with a traditional Christmas market, ice rink, live music and lots more, head to Port of Dover's Cruise Terminal 1 for a White Cliffs Christmas.
    • Christmas Events - including those at Dover Castle, Walmer Castle, East Kent Railway and Crabble Corn Mill.
