For fresh & local delights: Taste White Cliffs Country
Our guide to food and drink in Deal, Dover and Sandwich...
White Cliffs Country is nestled in the Garden of England, meaning that, as you might expect, we place huge importance on fresh, local produce. Our cafés and restaurants in Dover, Deal and the surrounding area offer local fish and seafood on their menus, responsibly sourced from the nearby water. You’ll also find seasonal fruit and vegetables sourced from our many local delicatessens, markets and farm shops. Dover Sole is a must-have, and don’t forget to sample traditional Fish and Chips before you leave the coast!
The café culture has definitely not passed this area by. Practically on every street corner you will find somewhere for a latté and a snack, ranging from the well-known high street names to stylish independents. Many have picturesque court yards or tables and chairs set out, so you can take time out and watch the world go by whilst sitting in the sun. If the weather isn’t so good, cuddle up to the open fire blazing in the corner of a beamed room in one of the many pubs in Deal, Dover and Sandwich, and take time to read the local newspaper provided.
Indulge in the quintessentially English pursuit of taking tea! There are plenty of places offering Kentish Cream Teas and Afternoon Tea in the Dover area and surrounding towns. Whether you prefer sophistication, with majestic cake stands, finger sandwiches and dainty bone china cups and saucers, or cheerful bunting, vintage teapots and cupcakes… we have it all in White Cliffs Country!
Kent’s hop fields have made our local beer famous for hundreds of years, and a Kentish apple makes an excellent cider. You will be able to enjoy a pint or two in our many traditional or boutique pubs near Sandwich, Deal and Dover, as well as a selection of micro-breweries across the district.
