Welcome to England’s largest festival of history and culture!
Every September thousands of volunteers across England organise events to celebrate our fantastic history and culture. It's your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – all of which are FREE to explore.
In Dover ...
Learn about the town's lost architecture in a series of teatime talks; join expert-guided walks around cemeteries, gun batteries and nature reserves; walk up (or down!) a unique triple helix staircase hidden inside the white cliffs; take a historic embroidery class in a stunning neo-gothic hall; and see parts of the Port of Dover not normally accessible to the public.

In Deal ...
Explore the town's maritime and military history, including the role boats from Deal played in the evacuation from Dunkirk; visit the former operating theatre of the Royal Naval Hospital (now part of a private home); enjoy a rare chance to see inside the world of Freemasonry; and take in stunning views of the coast from a fully restored windmill.
In Sandwich ...
See some of the district's oldest and best-preserved buildings, including Georgian almshouses, Thomas Paine's cottage and an Art Deco cinema; try your hand at medieval crafts and games; discover the dark history of Gallows Field; and climb a church tower to dicover the history of the Curfew Bell.
*Please note events in Sandwich are on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September only.
