The magnificent Maison Dieu reopens its doors!
Following a major multimillion pound investment, and two and a half years of upgrades and conservation work, the Maison Dieu (Dover’s town hall) reopens its doors to the public on10 May with a special opening weekend.
10am to 4pm
This is the first time the building will be permanently open to the public in its 800-year history and visitors will be able to see the painstaking restoration work that has brought this historic building back to life. New touch screen displays, films and audio points highlight the colourful history, and there will be a variety of fun activities for younger visitors during the opening weekend including dressing up, mini archaeological digs, and arts and crafts.
Visitors will be able to:
- Meet the conservators to find out about the restoration
- Chat to costumed characters
- Enjoy drama, dance and music performances by community partners
- Get creative with art and craft activities
- Take part in hands-on fun from dressing-up, to artefact handling and mini archaeological digs
- Celebrate diverse stories with the History Diggers research team
- Find out about the Friends of the Maison Dieu and volunteer opportunities
- Meet the Maison Dieu team to discuss holding your own special event there.
Please Note The Maison Dieu is now more accessible with a new street-level entrance on Biggin Street and a lift inside.
