The Sandwich Port and Haven is a Trust Port, an independent statutory body, governed by its own statutes and controlled by the Sandwich Port and Haven Commissioners. The commissioners work to ensure that everyone who uses the historic and ancient River Stour does so safely and to manage, maintain and improve the Port for the benefit of all.
The area covered extends from North Poulders Sluice (one mile above Sandwich toll bridge) downstream and out into Pegwell Bay to the point where the tide falls to Mean Low Water Springs.
The Port and Haven Harbour Master provides help and advice on the rules and regulations of the river, collects harbour dues, advises the commissioners and looks after the general health and safety administration of the River Stour within the bounds of the Trust Port.
The river offers many facilities and services, including a slipway on the quayside in town with parking and trailer storage.
The public quay is run by Dover District Council.
Highway Marine offers boat sales, pontoon moorings, boatyard services, storage and accommodation.
Sandwich Marina has moorings, slipway facilities, boat lifts, storage and hardstanding.
Richborough Marine offers dry docking, towage and shot-blasting/painting services.
