Please meet the Ranger for a prompt start at 1pm at the St Martin’s Battery Car Park.
As part of Butterfly Conservation’s Big Butterfly Count, join Ranger Lauren for a guided walk across the Western Heights to see what butterfly species you can discover. Along the way, you'll learn how to identify different species using key identification features, while finding out more about how Western Heights supports butterflies throughout the whole of their life cycle. You'll also take time to observe other pollinators visiting the wildflowers on site too.
A relaxed and informative guided walk, suitable for adults as well as families with children aged 5+. Children will be offered a spotter sheet to take around with them and must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
The guided walk will take you across the Western Heights from St Martins Battery view point to the Drop Redoubt where you will need to navigate uneven paths, narrow tunnels and a long flight of steep steps. The walk will be approximately 2km long walk.
This free event has been made possible with support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, thanks to National Lottery players, supporting English Heritage’s Reaching Greater Height Project & Dover District Council’s Historic England funded ‘Western Heights Heritage and Regeneration Project’.
Photos and videos will be taken during this event to support the projects. A photo consent form will be handed out at the start of the event.
