In line with this year's Heritage Open Day's theme the Maison Dieu will be exploring the everyday histories of those who lived and worked at the Maison Dieu.

Meet the Maison Dieu Stitchers Through Time as they teach you common repair stitches that would have been used time and time again to repair clothing and materials throughout history in these halls. Free drop in activity in collaboration with the Friends of the Maison, Heritage Stitching group.

  • Try on our ever-growing selection of Maison Dieu inspired costumes and props, created by the Stitchers Through Time.
  • Examine research by our ambassadors into everyday histories of the Maison Dieu.
  • Spot the mason marks carved it to stones and have a go at creating your own!
  • Visit the Dover Gaol to learn about the gruelling lives of those imprisoned there.
  • Get involved in free and fun craft activities inspired by the Maison Dieu.

Explore the latest Landmark Trust property, in Dover's historic Maison Dieu, including the architecture, dazzling decorative scheme and historic furniture of Victorian art architect and designer, William Burges.

Information on the building's history and children's activity sheets available. Regrettably it is not suitable for wheelchair users due to the narrowness of the historic door openings.

Part of Heritage Open Days, advanced booking preferred. www.landmarktrust.org.uk.
