A White Cliffs Walking Festival walk.
A circular walk that includes the village of Elvington, built for the miners of Tilmanstone Colliery, the remains of the colliery and part of the country estate of the landowner on which the colliery and the miners’ village was built.
The name of the walk, ‘Snap Tins and Sunshine’ is the title of an Elvington Heritage book of family memories. ‘Snap Tins’ refers to the food containers miners would take underground; ‘Sunshine’ refers to the Elvington countryside as compared to the industrial surroundings of traditional mining villages at that time.
- The walk is circular, 5.5 miles (9 km) in length.
- Parts are without a hard footpath and can be muddy.
- There are some gentle slopes.
- There are no toilets on route.
