A White Cliffs Walking Festival walk.

Ancient Landscapes & Natural History is a 4.6-mile/3.5-4-hour circular walk that starts and ends at Walmer train station. Your guide Mel Wrigley is a highly experienced ecologist who is passionate about our landscape - you'll learn about the origins of place names, landscape features, wild plants and wildlife on the way.

Enjoy a cross-country walk through farmland and hedgerows, passing Ripple Mill en route to the historic village of Ringwould. You will cross the A258 to follow the ancient pathway down to The Lynch and up to the top of Kingsdown ancient wood. You’ll then walk down Upper Street and head towards Kingsdown church, following the footpath towards Hawkshill Down back into the town of Walmer.

  • Bring snacks and drinking water. There may be time for a short stop at a village pub or café.
  • Some steep slopes and uneven terrain.
