A White Cliffs Walking Festival walk.
Discover the remarkable story of East Kent’s changing landscape on this guided circular walk, led by the experienced Boots on Adventures team as part of the White Cliffs Walking Festival. Covering approximately eight miles, this route combines industrial heritage, picturesque villages, and some of the finest countryside found within the Kent Downs National Landscape.
Starting from The Square in Aylesham, the walk begins by exploring an area deeply connected to Kent’s coal mining past. Aylesham was built to serve the nearby collieries, and the surrounding landscape still reflects this important chapter in the county’s history. As you leave the village, the route gradually transitions from its industrial heritage into peaceful farmland and open countryside.
One of the highlights of the walk is joining a beautiful stretch of the North Downs Way, one of England’s best-loved National Trails. Here, the landscape opens up to reveal rolling chalk downland, wide skies, and sweeping views across the surrounding countryside. In October, the changing colours of the hedgerows and woodlands make this section particularly rewarding.
- Meet in the car park at 9.15am for a 9.30am start.
- £7 per person (excluding parking charges).
- Mixed terrain, slightly undulating - approximately 8 miles (12.8km).
- Please wear suitable footwear (walking boots or sturdy shoes) and waterproof coat (and waterproof trousers, if you have them) if rainy.
