The White Cliffs Walking Festival runs from 3-10 October and has a fantastic programme of guided walks for all ages and abilities. Follow sections of the King Charles III England Coast Path, learn about the fascinating wildlife and heritage of the area and explore this lovely area. Many walks include stops at local pubs, cafés and places of interest, many of the walks are free, and a few need to be booked in advance.

Explore castles, heritage and history

White Cliffs Country is packed with fascinating historic attractions that make ideal autumn visits. Step inside the magnificent 800-year-old Maison Dieu in Dover and discover its stunning Gothic interiors and remarkable medieval history. Visit Dover Castle, one of England's most impressive fortresses, explore its wartime tunnels and enjoy panoramic views across the coast. Nearby, Walmer Castle has beautiful gardens to explore and plenty of seasonal colour well into winter.

For anyone interested in local heritage, Dover Museum and Bronze Age Boat Gallery showcase one of the world's most important archaeological discoveries, while Deal Museum (open Fridays to Sundays until 2 November) and Sandwich Guildhall Museum (open Wednesdays to Sundays) also bring local history to life.

The Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne provides a moving and memorable experience, set against some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in Kent.

Discover stunning autumn gardens and parks

Autumn still offers plenty of interest for garden lovers. As well as the award-winning gardens at Walmer Castle, you can explore 15 inspiring acres at Goodnestone Park Gardens, featuring vibrant autumn foliage, mature trees and seasonal planting. Afterwards, warm up with coffee and cake in the Old Dairy Cafe.

Pines Garden in St Margaret's Bay offers six acres of tranquil organic gardens close to the coast, while Kearsney Parks, including Kearsney Abbey, Russell Gardens and Bushy Ruff, provide peaceful walks among colourful autumn landscapes. Both have cafes where you can warm up after a walk.

Enjoy family-friendly days out

White Cliffs Country offers plenty to keep families entertained throughout autumn and the school holidays.

Wingham Wildlife Park is always a memorable day out. It's home to a wide variety of amazing animals and their new Kingdom of the Big Cats is now open where you can see majestic lions and tigers. 

At Betteshanger Park, families can enjoy woodland walks, cycling trails, outdoor adventures and far-reaching countryside views. For a unique experience, meet the friendly pygmy goats at Tiny Hooves and even take them for a walk.

Celebrate autumn and halloween

As October arrives, White Cliffs Country embraces the season with pumpkin patches, Halloween trails and family-friendly events.

Choose the perfect pumpkin at Felderland Farm Pick Your Own near Sandwich or enjoy seasonal activities at Wingham Wildlife Park's Pumpkin Patch. At Dover Castle, Halloween Half Term brings themed trails, interactive storytelling, spooky fun and family activities within the walls of Kent's most famous castle.
